"Films in the Castle" shows "A Complete Unknown"

On Friday, April 25, at 8 p.m., "Filme im Schloss" will be showing the film biography "A Complete Unknown", about the beginning of the career of US singer-songwriter Bob Dylan in the 1960s and his transformation from folk to rock musician, at the German Film and Media Review (FBW), Biebrich Castle.

Bob Dylan would probably prefer people to know as little as possible about him. Preferably not even that his real name is Robert Allen Zimmerman. After all, the music legend, who has been awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature, likes to hide behind his large sunglasses and let his famous lyrics speak for themselves instead. Bob Dylan has long resisted films about him. Director Todd Hayned only received permission in the mid-2000s because his experimental approach envisaged the singer being played by half a dozen different actors and actresses (including Heath Ledger, Richard Gere and Cate Blanchett), none of whom were called Bob Dylan in the film.

James Mangold ("Indiana Jones 5", "Walk the Line") chose a much more classic approach for his aptly titled drama "A Complete Unknown". Based on the non-fiction book "Dylan Goes Electric!" by Elijah Wald, the film sheds light on the less than five years before the musician's big breakthrough and the biggest controversy of his career. New York City in the early 1960s: 19-year-old Bob Dylan from Minnesota, discovered by Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie, launches a successful career as a folk musician. He soon fills entire concert halls with his mystical performances and his songs top the charts. He begins love affairs with Sylvie Russo and the well-known musician Joan Baez. The joint performances with Baez fuel Russo's jealousy. A high point in Dylan's artistic career came in 1965, when he switched to rock music during a performance at the Newport Folk Festival.

The rather classic narrative gives the impressive cast in particular a number of opportunities to shine. These include Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan, Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, Boyd Holbrook and Dan Fogler. And the great music scenes are always real highlights that make up for many a dull moment in between. The original English version with German subtitles will be shown.

Tickets can be reserved at www.filme-im-schloss.de, by e-mail to infofilme-im-schlossde or by phone (0611) 840562 and purchased at the box office.
