Literaturhaus: Author reading on World Book Day
In his new book, John von Düffel takes a philosophical and self-critical look at consumption and abundance. To mark World Book Day on Wednesday, April 23, the author and dramaturge will be presenting "Ich möchte lieber nichts" at 7.30 pm at the Literaturhaus Villa Clementine, Frankfurter Straße 1.
The evening will be hosted by journalist Eva Schmidt. The reading is already sold out in advance; there are still a few remaining tickets available at the box office for 15 euros, concessions 11 euros. The event is organized by Literaturhaus Villa Clementine/Kulturamt Wiesbaden.
At the center of "Ich möchte lieber nichts" is the character Fiona, whom the narrator meets again after 35 years. He met the Scottish woman while studying philosophy as an ascetic, who even then seemed to get by with nothing but reading and thinking. Now they resume their conversation and an exchange of ideas ensues, with which John von Düffel continues the thread of his philosophical book "Das Wenige und das Wesentliche" (The Little and the Essential). In a society in which renouncing consumption is considered rebellion, the author locates himself in a world of consumers, works out social considerations of class and consumption and yet remains thoughtful in the mirror of freedom and independence.
John von Düffel was born in 1966 and works as a dramaturge and writer. His works have been awarded numerous prizes, including the aspekte Literature Prize in 1998 and the Nicolas Born Prize in 2006. Further information can be found here (opens in a new tab).
