Grant of 25,000 euros for cat protection in Wiesbaden

On Monday, March 3, Milena Löbcke, the responsible department head for animal welfare, presented the Wiesbaden Working Group for the Prevention of Cat Offspring (VKN e.V.) with a grant of 25,000 euros to support their work in the field of cat protection.

This grant is intended in particular to help reduce the uncontrolled proliferation of street cats in the city, contain infectious diseases and look after and care for the shy animals. VKN e.V. has been active in Wiesbaden for 40 years and has established itself as an important help center for feral, sick or injured street cats. The organization ensures that these animals are neutered, fed, given veterinary care and, if possible, placed in a new home. Head of Department Löbcke explained: "With its commitment, the association makes a very important contribution to animal welfare and the implementation of the Cat Protection Ordinance. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the volunteers, the uncontrolled proliferation of street cats in Wiesbaden has been largely prevented so far. I am very pleased that the city of Wiesbaden will be supporting this work financially in the coming year."

The organization is largely supported by donations and volunteer work, so every euro of the grant has a direct impact on the care and protection of cats in the city. The two chairwomen Susanne Tobin and Edda Ott accepted the symbolic cheque. Susanne Tobin commented: "This grant will make our work much easier. Higher costs for food and vets have caused us great concern in recent years. Now we can carry on energetically."

However, the cat protection association is not only dependent on funds. Volunteers are always needed. Anyone who can imagine helping to rescue street cats is welcome to contact the association via the website https://www.vkn-wiesbaden.de/.
