"Films in the Castle" shows "Babygirl"
"Filme im Schloss" will be showing the erotic drama "Babygirl", which was awarded the prize for best actress (Nicole Kidman) at the Venice Film Festival 2024, on Friday, April 11, at 8 p.m. at the German Film and Media Rating (FBW), Biebrich Castle. The original English version with German subtitles will be shown, FSK 16.
Dutch director Halina Reijn has staged an intense erotic psychological thriller about social taboos, power games and loss of control that does away with old patterns of behavior and rules. "Babygirl" impresses with its precise characterization and a keen sense of detail and repeatedly manages to play with the audience's expectations. Nicole Kidman proves her acting skills in the title role - Antonio Banderas and Harris Dickinson ("Triangle of Sadness") shine alongside her as the outrageously confident intern.
Romy (Nicole Kidman) is the boss of a robotics company, Samuel her half-as-old intern. The deep power imbalance is also woven into this erotic thriller. Above all, however, it is about unfulfilled sexual desire that unexpectedly breaks free - and female sexual desire at that. In politically correct times, the studios prefer to steer clear of such daring things. The film production company A 24, however, is going for the unusual and has already released the Oscar winner "Everything Everywhere All at Once" (2022). "A thriller that captures something real about the erotic experience of women in the age of control!" (Variety).
