"Together instead of lonely": Strolling campaign in Biebrich on May 27

On Tuesday, May 27, at 2 p.m., the Department of Social Work for the Elderly invites you to take a stroll in Biebrich Palace Park. The meeting point is in front of Biebrich Palace with a view of the Rhine. The event is part of the nationwide campaign week "Together out of loneliness" organized by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.

City Councillor Gaby Wolf will welcome the guests on behalf of Dr. Patricia Becher, Head of Social Affairs. During the open walk through the castle park, people of all ages are invited to walk together and exchange ideas. After all, walks not only promote exercise, but also strengthen social interaction.

"When people meet regularly, it not only strengthens togetherness, but also health. Every step and every conversation counts, especially in old age. That's why we need offers that bring people together in an uncomplicated way - like here, strolling together in the castle park. Participation must be possible for everyone - regardless of age, income or life situation," emphasizes Dr. Patricia Becher, Head of Social Affairs for the state capital of Wiesbaden.

Afterwards, all participants are invited to coffee and cake at Treffpunkt Aktiv - Martin-Hörner-Zentrum. Thanks to a donation from the Schröer bakery, participation in the walk and refreshment stop is free of charge.

The event is organized by the Open Work for the Elderly department. The aim is to make it easier for older people in particular to access community activities and thus actively prevent loneliness.

Against the backdrop of demographic change and a rapidly growing number of older people in the coming years, it is more important than ever to strengthen social participation, including for senior citizens who live alone and are financially disadvantaged. Chronic loneliness can not only impair mental well-being, but also promote physical and mental illness. The city of Wiesbaden is drawing attention to these challenges with its participation in the campaign week - and is focusing on practical solutions close to home.

In addition to the strolling campaign, the Office for Social Work in Wiesbaden offers a variety of low-threshold, city-wide services for people aged 55 and over - including reduced-cost lunch tables, dance and play groups, exercise programs and excursions. In addition to this, three other areas of the Department for Work with the Elderly enable older people to live as independently as possible in old age. These include the retirement homes in the Wiesbaden city area, the Gerontological Regional Network for Wiesbaden (Gere-NETZ) and the advice centers for independent living in old age.
