"New Poetry": readings and performances on World Book Day
On Thursday, April 23, the Literaturhaus Villa Clementine, Frankfurter Straße 1, is celebrating World Book Day with poetry, performances and talks under the motto "New Poetry" from 7.30 pm. Guests include the sound poet, linguist and illustrator Kinga Tóth and the poet and writer Yevgeniy Breyger, who will each present their latest work.
The evening begins at 7:30 p.m., with literary educator and critic Maren Jäger serving as moderator. There will be a break between the two readings. Tóth will read from her poetry collection “Mariamachina,” which combines traditional prayers with modern images of women. In it, she gives a voice to nuns, lovers, fighters, and cyborgs, brings them into conversation with one another, and develops new linguistic imagery for the present day. In “Hallo Niemand,” Breyger embarks on a road trip in verse with his hero, named “Niemand,” in a red Audi A6. He encounters priests, rabbis, and God, as well as Gregor Gysi, Olaf Scholz, and Alice Weidel. The result is a ludicrous odyssey that is fast-paced and, above all, highly political.
Tickets are available in advance for 15 euros, or 11 euros with a discount, plus a booking fee, at the Wiesbaden Tourist Information Office, Marktplatz 1, phone (0611) 1729930, or online via the Literaturhaus website. At the box office on the night of the event, tickets cost 18 euros, or 14 euros with a discount.
The event is organized by the Literaturhaus Villa Clementine/Kulturamt. Further information is available on the Literaturhaus website at www.wiesbaden.de/literaturhaus (opens in a new tab).
