Press release of the state capital Wiesbaden

Day of urban development

"Vibrant places, strong communities." - This is the motto of the nationwide Urban Development Day on Saturday, May 9.

“In Wiesbaden, we are also using urban development funding to make the necessary adjustments to climate change and to make our neighborhoods more climate-resilient and livable,” said Christiane Hinninger, Head of the Environment Department. “Removing impervious surfaces and planting vegetation also creates new qualities that make these spaces more inviting. All the projects demonstrate how sealed-off areas are being transformed back into vibrant urban spaces that are actively shaped by the local community.”

Those interested can see this for themselves on a walking tour that begins on Friday, May 8, at 4 p.m. under the motto “On your marks—urban greenery! Go!” Together with the Parks Department and SEG Wiesbaden, the tour will pass through the Rheingauviertel and Westend neighborhoods, with stops at Wallufer Platz, Elsässer Park, Blücherplatz, and Bülowplatz. The tour will conclude around 6 p.m. at Sedanplatz.

Please register by Monday, May 4, via email, including your name and the number of people attending, to stadterneuerungseg-wiesbadende. The number of participants is limited; the meeting point will be provided with your confirmation.

Urban development funding is one of the most important tools for urban development. The nationwide day of action is a joint initiative of the federal government, the states, and local government associations, and it strengthens citizen participation.
