Press release of the state capital Wiesbaden

Water pipe for city center to be renewed

From Monday, May 4, lanes on Berliner Straße will be closed.

Every year, ESWE Versorgung invests not only in the expansion but also in the renovation of the existing energy infrastructure. One example of this is the work being done on Wiesbaden’s water network. New construction has already begun in the median strip of Gustav-Stresemann-Ring, and as a result, Wettiner Straße has been closed since last Monday. A central supply line for delivering drinking water to the city center runs underground here.

The pipes in this section of the network, with an inner diameter of 40 centimeters, date from 1953 to 1973. In the past, there have been isolated disruptions, such as in 2001, 2022, and most recently in 2025. For this reason, the pipeline is now being replaced over a length of 800 meters on both Gustav-Stresemann-Ring and Berliner Straße.

Starting Monday, May 4, Berliner Straße will be affected near the BRITA Arena. Depending on the progress of construction, one lane heading out of town will be temporarily closed during rush hour, and two lanes will be closed during off-peak hours. The work is scheduled to be completed by this winter.

ESWE Versorgung thanks you for your understanding and apologizes for any inconvenience.
