Press release of the state capital Wiesbaden

Art exhibition by people with disabilities in the town hall

In the foyer of the town hall, Schlossplatz 6, from Tuesday, April 28, to Saturday, May 9, various art sponsors of the integration assistance of the state capital Wiesbaden are presenting a joint art exhibition.

Admission to the exhibition is free. The town hall foyer is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The aim of the exhibition is to highlight the artistic diversity and expressiveness of people with disabilities and to provide insights into creative work that often remains hidden. “It is important to us that we present a united front with this collaborative exhibition,” says Julia Isterling, who supports and oversees various art projects in Wiesbaden.

The exhibition brings together works from various institutions and projects. Participants include the artistic painting group of the residential community of the Werkgemeinschaft Wiesbaden, the open art workshop of Vitos Rheingau, the art workshop “Eigenart,” the studio “Wir können Kunst” of Facettenwerk, the design group of the non-profit organization zu Hause GmbH, the writing workshop of Lebenshilfe, and the open studio of Evim.

Elke Nohles, art therapist at the Werkgemeinschaft, emphasizes the social dimension: “This exhibition brings to light what is often overlooked. Creativity knows no limits, but our society still has too many barriers.”

There is a special connection to the inclusive art project “Touched by Art,” which advocates for the visibility and participation of artists with disabilities. All the organizations behind the exhibition are involved in the project.

The exhibition is part of the European Day of Protest for the Equality of People with Disabilities, an event organized by the City of Wiesbaden in cooperation with advocacy groups, taking place on Tuesday, May 5, at City Hall. From 3 to 6 p.m., visitors are invited to learn more, exchange ideas, and take a stand for inclusion.

“I would like to thank all participating organizations for their dedicated, artistic work in their respective studios and for making this collaborative exhibition possible. We want to work together to strengthen the cultural participation of people with disabilities in many areas of Wiesbaden,” says Andrea Hausy, the municipal inclusion officer.
