Book presentation for “Christian Dell” with a discussion with the author at the City Museum

The Stadtmuseum am Markt invites you to the Marktkeller on Wednesday, August 26, at 6 p.m. for the presentation of the new publication “Christian Dell.” Published by arnoldsche Art Publishers, the book is the first comprehensive work in thirty years dedicated to the silversmith, Bauhaus master craftsman, and lighting designer Christian Dell (1893–1974).

Dell is one of the most significant—yet long-underappreciated—designers of the 20th century. As a master craftsman at the Bauhaus in Weimar and later as head of the metalworking class at the Frankfurt Art School, he shaped an entire generation of designers. He gained international recognition particularly for his lighting designs. This comprehensive publication introduces the designer and offers a fresh assessment of his work.

At the book launch, Beate Alice Hofmann (Hanau Municipal Museums), Michael Siebenbrodt (founding director of the Bauhaus Museum in Weimar and Dessau), and Josef Straßer (Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum, Munich) will provide insights into the creation of the publication as well as key themes and personal highlights from Dell’s multifaceted body of work.

The event takes place as part of the special exhibition “Christian Dell – From the Silver Jug to Goldgasse” and the World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026.

Following the event, the City Museum invites attendees to a reception. The publication can be purchased at the arnoldsche Art Publishers bookstand for 48 euros.

Short guided tours of the exhibition will be offered starting at 5:00 p.m. Admission is free.
