Children's Festival at the Training Ground
As part of the “Auf die Plätze los” project of World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026 (WDC), the second children’s festival will take place on Friday, August 28, from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. at the Lehrplatz under the theme “Kids in Action—Fun and Exercise at the Lehrplatz.”
This will once again turn the Lehrplatz into a gathering place for children, families, and the neighborhood, all of whom are warmly invited to spend a lively afternoon together. The festival focuses on play, social interaction, and the active participation of children. With a variety of hands-on activities, the festival invites visitors to experience the schoolyard in a new way: as a public space for play, interaction, and collaborative creativity.
The schoolyard festival is organized by the School Social Work Department for Children at the Anton-Gruner-Schule in cooperation with Kunstwerkern. “Children need spaces where they can move around, interact, and actively explore their surroundings. The schoolyard offers a wonderful opportunity for this. With this festival, we want to show how vibrant a public space can become when children and families use it together,” emphasizes Heike Richter, acting director of the Office of Social Work, who will deliver opening remarks.
The Office of Social Services’ “Auf die Plätze los” project uses a variety of activities and events to promote the creation of public spaces that are child-friendly, livable, and community-oriented. In the process, local children are actively involved in the planning and can share their perspectives and ideas. “Projects like ‘Auf die Plätze los’ show how participation becomes a tangible experience for children and how important it is to give them real opportunities to help shape their environment. When children experience that their own voice matters, they experience democracy in a very concrete way,” emphasizes Nicole Neuhof, head of the Department of School Social Work for Children.
The event is free of charge. For more information on the “Auf die Plätze los” project, visit www.wiesbaden.de/kultur/kultur-erleben/veranstaltungen/wdc-auf-die-plaetze (opens in a new tab).
