Mayor Mende Reaches Agreement with Coalition on Departmental Allocations
Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende and representatives of the new coalition in the Wiesbaden City Council have reached an agreement on the future allocation of departments. The allocation of departments was presented on Thursday, August 13, at a press conference held by the coalition parties.
Mayor Mende commented on this on Thursday, August 13, in Wiesbaden: “This agreement was reached after intense negotiations that required both sides to make concessions that were, in some cases, painful. However, it is in line with my understanding that the city administration is a collegial body guided by the spirit of constructive cooperation, just as I have practiced it for seven years now. Citizens rightly expect the city administration to be capable of taking action and to focus its work on the issues at hand rather than on partisan political positions. It was also important to me that the mayor’s core responsibilities as head of the municipal administration remain unaffected.”
Incidentally, the agreement on the distribution of departments does not imply the mayor’s endorsement of the contents of the coalition agreement.
Mende went on to say that the changes associated with a new departmental structure naturally cause concern among the affected employees. He expects the future department heads to handle this matter sensitively.
