Summer Market at Mauritiusplatz: Residents Can Have a Say in Its Future Design
What should the summer market on Mauritiusplatz look like in the future? The state capital of Wiesbaden would like to take into account the perspectives of retailers, restaurant owners, downtown residents, and visitors.
Mayor Christiane Hinninger says: “Mauritiusplatz is an important place. The summer market can help draw people to the downtown area and enhance the quality of life there. For future planning, we therefore want to take a close look at what has proven successful and what wishes and ideas the residents of Wiesbaden have.”
Jens Ackermann, head of the City Management Office, adds: “We’d like to learn about the different perspectives on Mauritiusplatz and the summer market, so we’re looking forward to broad participation and as much feedback as possible.”
Starting now and through Thursday, September 17, anyone interested can participate in an online survey. The survey can be accessed at www.wiesbaden.de/umfrage-sommermarkt. In-person participation is also possible: On Thursday, August 27, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., residents can share their opinions, wishes, and suggestions at the “Summer Market/Mauritiusplatz” information booth at the corner of Kirchgasse and Schulgasse.
For several years now, Mauritiusplatz has hosted a summer market during the summer months. The current management contract with TWL GmbH (Taunus Wunderland) ends this year. Consequently, a new contract is to be awarded for the future operation and management of the square.
Public participation is a key component in the process leading up to the new contract award. The goal is a transparent and accountable process that incorporates diverse perspectives and interests.
A workshop with city administration officials and the relevant departments will take place in early September. Another workshop is scheduled for late September with political representatives from the various political parties, the local advisory board, and other downtown stakeholders. The different perspectives and findings will then be synthesized and incorporated into the plan for the re-tendering of the summer market.
