Press release of the state capital Wiesbaden

Events Organized by the Senior Citizens' Advisory Council

In the coming weeks, the Senior Citizens’ Advisory Council of the State Capital of Wiesbaden invites you to “Afternoon Movies,” a telephone consultation session on scam artists, and the “Flashback – Roll Film” series.

On Wednesday, September 2, at 3:30 p.m., the Senior Citizens’ Advisory Council, in cooperation with the Murnau Film Theater, invites you to the “Afternoon Movie” series. The film “The Goose of Sedan” will be shown. During the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, the hunt for a goose on a small river brings two enemy soldiers together. In their haste, they swap uniforms, setting the stage for a series of mix-ups—partly farcical, partly charming and amusing—in this entertaining film that champions friendship between nations. The event will take place at the Murnau Film Theater, Murnaustraße 6. Admission is 6 euros and is open to all age groups. Tickets are available at the box office and online at murnau-stiftung.de/filmtheater. Reservations can be made by email at filmtheatermurnau-stiftungde or by phone at (0611) 9770841 (Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.).

On Monday, September 7, the Senior Citizens’ Advisory Board will offer a telephone consultation hour from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the topic of scams. By calling (0611) 312591, seniors can get advice on the topic “How can I protect myself from scammers? Shock calls, fake police officers, the grandchild scam, and much more.” Scammers’ imaginations know no bounds. Whether at the front door, on the phone, out and about, or online, they are constantly coming up with new tricks to get their hands on the money and valuables of older adults.  Marion Beste, a police-certified safety advisor for seniors, is available to answer callers’ questions and provide advice and tips.

On Tuesday, September 8, at 3:30 p.m., the Senior Citizens’ Advisory Council, in cooperation with the Caligari Filmbühne (Marktplatz 9), invites you to the “Flashback – Roll Film” series. The film “Amrum” will be shown. The year is 1945, during the final weeks of World War II, in a small village on the island of Amrum: Nanning, the family’s eldest child, works in the potato field of farmer Tessa Bendixen or gathers driftwood for firewood to help his mother, Hille, feed the family. She is a staunch Nazi and heavily pregnant. Nanning and his mother, along with his aunt Ena and his two younger siblings, were forced to flee bombed-out Hamburg and take refuge on the island. Nanning’s father is an SS Obersturmbannführer and is away at war. Although Nanning’s family on his mother’s side has been from Amrum for nine generations, he himself can only understand the local North Frisian language—he cannot speak it—which makes Nanning feel like a stranger on the island. Admission is 6 euros for people of all ages. The box office opens daily at 5:00 p.m. and half an hour before the event begins.
