After ten funding cycles, the Department of Culture reports positive results. The “Cultural Education in Schools” program was launched in 2021 and has since successfully established itself. 

“It took some time for Wiesbaden’s schools and cultural partners to become aware of the funding opportunities. But the program is now very well received across all types of schools,” explains Dr. Hendrik Schmehl, Head of the Cultural Affairs Department. 

Since the program’s launch, more than 100 creative school projects in Wiesbaden have received funding—ranging from theater and music projects to visual arts and interdisciplinary formats for all ages and grade levels. 

A distinctive feature of the funding program is the high priority placed on student participation. The projects are not “purchased” as ready-made offerings, but rather developed and designed together with the children and young people. The goal of the funding is to enable children and young people to engage with cultural and artistic topics in a hands-on way—topics that often receive only limited attention in the regular school day. At the same time, collaboration with artists and cultural institutions opens up new perspectives and creates low-threshold access to art and culture.
