Work on Schiersteiner Straße near Waldstraße: Three Projects, One Construction Site
Due to several necessary construction projects, traffic restrictions will be in effect starting in late June on Schiersteiner Straße, between Saarstraße and the intersection with Waldstraße. Thanks to proactive coordination by the city of Wiesbaden, the various projects are being strategically bundled and carried out largely at the same time.
This use of synergies ensures that the overall impact on traffic is kept to a minimum by scheduling the work primarily during the summer vacation period, when traffic is lighter. Positive results were already achieved last year with this approach, particularly along Schiersteiner Straße.
The measures in detail:
- Renovation of the Aartalbahn Bridge: On Friday evening, June 26, construction site setup will begin at the Sauerwiesweg intersection. Scaffolding and protective enclosures must be erected on the roadway for the renovation. Depending on the construction phase, this will result in the closure of two to three lanes. However, at least one lane will remain open in each direction at all times. The work is expected to last until Saturday, August 15, and will thus end one week after the end of the school vacation.
- Sewer construction work: At the same time and in the immediate wake of the bridge renovation, the waste management company (ELW) is seizing the opportunity. Sewer excavation work is being carried out near house numbers 92–96. Since this does not require any additional lane reductions, one lane will remain open in each direction in this area as well. This work is expected to be completed on Friday, August 7.
- New Water Main Installation by Hessenwasser: Starting Thursday, July 6, Hessenwasser GmbH will begin Construction Phase 2. To install a new water main, both the entrance and exit ramps of Waldstraße must be completely closed to vehicle and bicycle traffic. At the Schiersteiner Straße/Waldstraße intersection, one lane will be available heading out of town and two lanes heading into town. Pedestrians can cross Schiersteiner Straße in this area at a designated crossing. This measure is expected to be completed on Wednesday, August 5, before the end of summer vacation.
Road users familiar with the area are strongly urged to take a wide detour around the entire area via the 2nd Ring Road. Appropriate detour signage will be installed. As an additional relief measure and alternative route, Holzstraße will be available from July 6 through August 5. Work on that road will be temporarily suspended during this intensive construction phase to facilitate traffic flow. The traffic situation in the area of the construction work is being continuously monitored by the Road Traffic Authority of the State Capital of Wiesbaden and optimized whenever possible.
Pedestrians can continue to use their usual routes—with the exception of the modified crossing at the Waldstraße intersection. ESWE-Verkehr provides direct information about any bus route detours at eswe-verkehr.de (opens in a new tab).
The City of Wiesbaden asks all road users for their understanding regarding these unavoidable disruptions. Regular repairs to roads, utility lines, and sewers are a necessary investment in the future. Without these preventive measures, major damage and, in the long term, even more severe traffic disruptions would inevitably occur. Each year, the city coordinates approximately 5,000 construction sites within the city limits.
