"Fight against impunity, Argentina's military on trial": Wolfgang Kaleck guest at the Kunsthaus

The Kunsthaus, Schulberg 10, invites you to a panel discussion on Wednesday, June 17, at 7 pm, as part of the exhibition "Memory in Action: Marcelo Brodsky". Wolfgang Kaleck, author of the book "Kampf gegen Straflosigkeit - Argentiniens Militär vor Gericht", and Michael Alvarez Kalverkamp, office manager of the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Buenos Aires, will be discussing the topic (via live link). Admission is free.

Kaleck is a lawyer, the founder of the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR), and a recognized expert on Argentine history and the works of Marcelo Brodsky. His new book, *The Strength of Law vs. The Law of the Strongest*, is a defense of international law.  Kalverkamp has been the director of the Heinrich Böll Foundation’s new regional office in Buenos Aires for Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay since 2023. Previously the foundation’s press spokesperson in Berlin, he headed the foundation’s office in Chile from 2008 to 2014 and, from there, also oversaw the foundation’s work and collaborations in Argentina.

Brodsky gained international recognition for his photo essay “Buena Memoria” (1997), which addresses the deportation and murder of some of his classmates and his brother Fernando Brodsky during the military dictatorship in Argentina. His class photo “La Clase” is part of the exhibition. His art forms part of the foundation for the struggle for justice in Argentina following the military dictatorship.

The event will be moderated by Monique Behr, director of the Kunsthaus. The event is organized in cooperation with the Heinrich Böll Foundation Hesse.
