Mayor and Head of the Environment Department Christiane Hinninger says: “We ask all residents to carry a reusable bottle with them, especially these days, and to use the refill stations. Heat can lead to exhaustion and circulatory problems. That’s why you should drink water regularly, even when you’re out and about. Drinking tap water helps protect the environment because it produces no packaging waste.”

The refill stations are located in public facilities and government offices, as well as in cafés, stores, hair salons, and doctors’ offices. They can be identified by the blue refill sticker in the shape of a water droplet, which is affixed to the entrance door or storefront window. They can be found, along with public drinking fountains and other places to quench your thirst, on the state capital’s “Map of Cool Spots” at geoportal.wiesbaden.de/kartenwerk/application/kuehlekarte (opens in a new tab).

The Refill stations are managed by the nationwide initiative Refill Deutschland. This initiative promotes the consumption of tap water and works to reduce packaging waste.
