Press release of the state capital Wiesbaden

Launch of the “Creating Culture – Strengthening Democracy – Walhalla” campaign

Through the “Create Culture – Strengthen Democracy – Walhalla” campaign, all citizens are invited to get a glimpse, starting in late June, of what this cultural venue will look like in the future and what programs will be held there, thanks to a temporary redesign of the Walhalla’s facades.

The glass cube facing Mauritiusplatz, windows along Hochstättenstraße, and banners along the construction fence across from the Mauritius Media Library will be decorated. The design studio callmebaby and project manager Vanessa Remy developed this display together. The installation on the building is being supported organizationally by the urban development company SEG. Among other things, visualizations by the architectural firm Waechter + Waechter are on display. These provide a glimpse of how the “third place” on the ground floor and the rooms in the new side extension will be designed. A display board summarizes the key elements of the usage concept, and QR codes link to the project’s city website for more detailed information at wiesbaden.de/kultur/kultur-machen/walhalla (opens in a new tab).

“As the head of the urban planning department, I also view the Walhalla as a central project in urban renewal. We are developing a place that strengthens democracy through art, promotes the economy by revitalizing the downtown area, and invites both the local community and people from beyond the region to come together at this meeting place,” says Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende.
