Press release of the state capital Wiesbaden

Temporary play streets in Wiesbaden: More space for children and the neighborhood

Once again this year, several streets in various Wiesbaden districts will be transformed into lively play and meeting places. With the temporary play streets, the city is creating more space for children, families and neighborhoods - in the middle of the district and free from through traffic.

On select days, certain sections of the street are temporarily closed to motorized traffic. Instead of cars, the streets are filled with children playing, neighbors socializing, and creative activities. Whether it’s hopscotch, riding scooters, playing ball, or simply spending time together—the play streets offer a wide range of opportunities for active recreation in public spaces.

The temporary play streets will take place on the following dates:

· Sunday, May 17, Children’s Rights Square

· Sunday, May 31, Klarenthal

· Sunday, May 31, Gräselberg

· Friday, June 5, Kastel

· Friday, September 4, Bierstadt

· Friday, September 18, Westend

· Sunday, September 27, Biebrich

The exact times and street sections will be announced at www.wiesbaden.de/kinderrechte (opens in a new tab) well in advance of each event.

The goal of the initiative is to improve the quality of life in the neighborhoods, create safe play areas for children, and strengthen social cohesion. The play streets expressly invite all residents to participate—whether by organizing their own games, neighborhood activities, or simply by sharing the public space together. The initiative is implemented in close collaboration with children’s, youth, and neighborhood centers, the German Child Protection Association (Deutscher Kinderschutzbund e.V.), and local initiatives. Residents will be informed in advance about road closures and organizational details.

Anyone who would like to help organize a play street in their neighborhood or has questions about the organization can contact the Service Center for Child and Youth Participation at the Office of Social Work by phone at (0611) 313015 or by email at kinderundjugendbeteiligungwiesbadende.
