Press release of the state capital Wiesbaden

State capital Wiesbaden supports the expansion of electromobility: new fast-charging park at the main railway station

The state capital of Wiesbaden is continuing to drive forward the expansion of the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles together with site partner Mer Germany. A new charging park with a total of 16 fast-charging points is being built in the Salzbachaue parking lot in Gartenfeldstraße near Wiesbaden's main railway station as part of the German network. The location belongs to the largest expansion category of the nationwide fast-charging network and is also Mer Germany's first XL location.

As the owner of the site and a local partner, the city of Wiesbaden is supporting the development of an efficient and forward-looking mobility solution in a central location. The new facility will offer charging capacities of up to 400 kW per charging point and is designed for commuters, travelers, residents, and visitors to the Hessian state capital.

The charging park is being built in the immediate vicinity of the main train station and combines a central and well-connected location with modern technical equipment. Plans include a roof with an integrated photovoltaic system as well as additional services such as a tire pressure station and a vacuum cleaner that can be used during the charging process.

“With the new fast-charging station, we are creating another important offering for the mobility of the future in Wiesbaden. The location at the main train station is ideally suited for this, as various transportation routes and user groups converge here,” explains Andreas Kowol, Head of Real Estate for the State Capital of Wiesbaden. “As the landowner, we are pleased to be working with Mer Germany to contribute to the expansion of public charging infrastructure and the promotion of climate-friendly mobility.”

With the planned 16 fast-charging points, the battery of compatible electric vehicles can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 15 to 20 minutes. Open access is enabled via charging cards, charging apps, and ad-hoc charging without registration. As things stand, a price of 0.69 euros per kilowatt-hour is currently planned for ad-hoc charging via credit or debit card. In addition, the respective rates of the charging card or app providers used apply.

The new charging park is part of the Deutschlandnetz, through which the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV) is specifically driving the nationwide expansion of the fast-charging infrastructure.

With the new charging park, the public fast-charging network in Wiesbaden will grow to over 200 DC charging points. Additional locations are in the works, including those under the Deutschlandnetz and the municipal concession agreement through ESWE Versorgung, as well as at gas stations and supermarkets.

During the construction phase, there will be temporary restrictions in the affected parking lot. Starting Tuesday, May 26, partial closures are initially planned. Beginning on Monday, June 15 (tentatively), some parking spaces in the northern section of the lot will be temporarily unavailable. As of now, construction is scheduled to be completed in early September 2026. The state capital of Wiesbaden asks all users of the parking lot for their understanding regarding the temporary restrictions.

About the Deutschlandnetz: With the Deutschlandnetz, the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV) is creating 9,000 additional fast-charging points for electric cars. Around 900 locations are being established in urban and rural areas, with another 200 directly at unstaffed highway rest stops. The goal is a comprehensive, demand-driven fast-charging network throughout Germany.
