Water supply to the northern cemetery completely shut down after another pipe burst
After another serious pipe burst in the lower water circuit, the water supply to the northern cemetery had to be shut down completely.
The current damage involves a steel main water line that has burst over a length of approximately 1.5 meters. Due to the unusual nature of the damage, the causes were investigated in greater detail. ESWE Versorgung has since confirmed that a pressure-boosting system was installed as part of new main water connections in the area of northern Platter Straße. This significantly increased the previous water pressure of approximately 1.8 bar. The old water pipes at the Nordfriedhof cemetery are evidently unable to withstand this increase in pressure.
The water pipes at Wiesbaden’s Nordfriedhof are for the most part as old as the cemetery itself, which was inaugurated in 1877 and will celebrate its 150th anniversary next year.
To prevent further damage to the existing infrastructure, two pressure reducers are now being installed by a specialized company in parallel with the ongoing repair work. Without these measures, there is a risk of further significant damage to the pipes at the Nordfriedhof.
At this time, it is not yet possible to estimate how long the repair work will take. The Parks and Recreation Department will provide updates as soon as new information becomes available and asks for your understanding regarding the necessary measures in the meantime.
The Cemetery Department within the Parks and Recreation Department of the State Capital of Wiesbaden maintains a total of 21 cemeteries within the city limits.
