Orange Night: Campaign Against Violence Against Women and Girls

The state capital of Wiesbaden invites you to an evening walk on the topic of violence prevention on Saturday, October 24, at 5:30 p.m. in Biebrich Castle Park as part of this year’s “Orange Night.”

The event is aimed at families, especially girls and women, and is free of charge. Due to limited space, advance registration is required at eveeno.com/238536357 (opens in a new tab).

Orange Night is part of the international “Orange the World” campaign, which raises awareness worldwide about violence against women and girls. With this event, Wiesbaden is sending a local message in the run-up to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and bringing together the work of various institutions, organizations, and stakeholders in the security sector.

Mayor Christiane Hinninger says: “Women and girls should be able to move about safely in our city and use public spaces as a matter of course. Safety is not achieved solely through measures taken by the city or the police, but also through awareness, knowledge, and mutual support. Orange Night brings many people and institutions together and makes it clear: Violence against women concerns us all.”

Saskia Veit-Prang, Municipal Women’s Commissioner, says: “Orange Night is not meant to tell women and girls that they should behave differently in public spaces. Rather, we want to share knowledge, highlight ways to take action, and work together with our partners to ensure that safety, support, and moral courage are visible. Public spaces belong to everyone, and that is exactly what we want to demonstrate with Orange Night.”

Miriam Weinandi, president of the Zonta Club, says: “Violence against women usually happens where no one is looking. Together, we’re bringing this issue to the forefront of society. Anyone who joins us is sending a message and, at the same time, learning where to find help and who to turn to.”

Following last year’s successful debut in the Fasanerie, this year’s Orange Night will take place in the Biebrich Castle Park. The tour will center on various interactive and informational stations where visitors can explore different aspects of safety and prevention. Topics include self-assertion and self-defense, how to behave in uncomfortable or threatening situations, as well as specific assistance and support services such as the “Luisa ist hier!” campaign and the “Heimwegtelefon” (Safe Home Hotline).

“Orange Night” is organized by the Municipal Women’s Affairs Office in cooperation with Zonta Wiesbaden, the Office for Road Traffic and City Police, the Prevention Council, the West Hesse Police Headquarters with on-site security personnel, and the Wiesbaden Girls’* Working Group.
