Smart cities and regions are the future! Based on the 2021 Smart City Charter of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community, they use digital technologies, data analysis and innovations to drive urban development in a citizen-oriented way. The city of the future is not only technologically advanced, but also socially inclusive, participatory and sustainable, making it liveable and lovable.

Municipalities should use digitalization to shape their development in a socially acceptable, fair, energy- and resource-efficient way. • Data from very different areas is collected and processed and made accessible in such a way that it can be used, for example, by the administrative offices or the interested public. Of course, all of this is always GDPR-compliant.
• Digital citizen services are being expanded and offered in order to make the city administration's services available to citizens in an easy and uncomplicated way.
• To this end, it is essential to consider the digital participation of different target groups, as all city residents must have the opportunity to use the digital services.
