Smart cities and regions are the future! Based on the vision outlined in the 2021 Smart City Charter of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building, and Community, they use digital technologies, data analysis, and innovation to drive citizen-centered urban development. The city of the future is not only technologically advanced, but also socially inclusive, participatory, and sustainable—making it a place worth living in and loving.

Municipalities should use digitalization to shape their development in a socially responsible, equitable, and energy- and resource-efficient manner. • Data from very different areas is collected and processed and made accessible in such a way that it can be used, for example, by the administrative offices or the interested public. Of course, all of this is always GDPR-compliant.
• Digital citizen services are being expanded and offered in order to make the city administration's services available to citizens in an easy and uncomplicated way.
• To this end, it is essential to consider the digital participation of different target groups, as all city residents must have the opportunity to use the digital services.
