Smart Ubilabs

Optimization of fire department deployment times

Smart Ubilabs is a web application that optimizes and simplifies the deployment times of the fire department as well as the analysis and planning of fire station locations. The solution uses vector calculations and takes into account the locations of the fire stations to determine the city's coverage and identify weak points.

The tool was expanded to include additional components as part of a workshop with the Wiesbaden fire department.

The application is based on a map that can be fed with various scenarios. In each scenario, the degree of coverage can then be read off, which shows the coverage of the addresses by the fire stations stored in the scenario. The addresses that can be reached within the specified assistance time are also stored for each location.

With the help of a route planning interface, the fastest connection lines are drawn that can be reached from the (potential) location of the stations in the same time. Traffic data such as traffic light waiting times are not taken into account during planning, as there are other standards for emergency vehicles.

The advantages:

  • Fast, flexible and cost-effective solution for site planning and deployment analysis for the fire department.
  • The application makes it possible to make well-founded and fact-based decisions within seconds, as it quickly provides valid data for reports and planning.
  • The web application is intuitive to use, requires no prior technical knowledge and can be flexibly adapted to individual requirements and changing conditions

Who benefits from it?

  • Fire departments and municipal decision-makers: internally, as it considerably simplifies and improves their work in terms of location planning and deployment optimization
  • Citizens, who benefit from faster and more comprehensive emergency services.
