Epochs of the city's history
Nassau period
In 1744, Prince Karl von Nassau-Usingen ordered the relocation of the Nassau residence from Usingen to Biebrich in the newly built baroque palace.
From then on, Biebrich served as the residence of the Nassau princes and, from 1806, of the Nassau dukes. With the formation of the Duchy of Nassau in 1816, Wiesbaden became the state capital and the seat of the ducal ministry and the ducal central administration. From then on, it developed into a "world spa town".
