Dyckerhoff studied mechanical engineering and chemistry at the technical universities in Hanover, Munich and Darmstadt and then spent a year working in the USA before joining the company in 1935. In 1946, he took over the management of the company in Amöneburg. From 1952 to 1973, he was a member of the Board of Management and Technical Director, as well as founder of the plant in Göllheim in the Palatinate, where he became an honorary citizen in 1973.
Dyckerhoff was active as a local politician, as a member of the Board of Trustees (1957-83) of the Paulinenstift deaconry association, as a friend and supporter of equestrian sports and in numerous honorary positions. The Christian Democrat became a city councillor in 1952 and was an honorary city councillor until 1961, as well as honorary district chairman of the Wiesbaden CDU.
The International Wiesbaden Whitsun Tournament remains particularly associated with his name. As early as 1931, the passionate rider joined the Wiesbaden Riding and Driving Club, of which he was President from 1949-87. He was also active in the "Board of Trustees for Therapeutic Riding", the "Friends of the Horse" organization, the German Equestrian Federation and the "German Olympic Committee for Equestrian Sports". In 1978, the city of Wiesbaden awarded him honorary citizenship. In 1983, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit. He was also awarded the Diaconia Crown Cross in Gold (1978).
