The state capital of Wiesbaden is responsible for external school matters, in particular for:

  • the establishment, operation, and closure of schools;
  • determining and changing the organizational structure of schools;
  • school construction;
  • the furnishing and equipping of school buildings and classrooms;
  • the provision of teaching materials;
  • the determination of school districts for elementary schools, learning support schools, and vocational schools;
  • the provision of staff for secretariats, caretakers, lunch rooms, and cleaning at schools
  • the creation of school development plans;
  • the handling and financing of student transportation.

The Wiesbaden State Capital School Authority is not responsible for:

  • the administrative and technical supervision of schools;
  • the provision of teachers;
  • matters relating to internal school operations, i.e., everything to do with teaching and its organization (timetables, class distribution, grading, transfers, etc.).

These tasks are performed by the State Education Authority for the Rheingau-Taunus district and the state capital of Wiesbaden.
