Deregister vehicle
If a vehicle is no longer used, it must be deregistered. The obligation to pay tax and insurance ends when the vehicle is deregistered.
The deregistration of the vehicle is noted on the registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document). The license plates can be removed and taken back with you.
If the car has been scrapped, a certificate of destruction and the registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document) must also be presented when deregistering the vehicle. The certificate of destruction can be obtained from a recognized acceptance/recycling center.
If you want to re-register the vehicle, you can keep your current license plate if it is a Wiesbaden license plate.
Deregistration is only possible with an appointment
Due to restructuring measures, deregistration is no longer possible without an appointment. From January 23, 2023, deregistration will only be possible for persons residing in Wiesbaden or vehicles registered in Wiesbaden - with prior appointment.
