- original registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document)
- original registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document)
- original foreign vehicle documents, if applicable with CoC or data confirmation from an officially recognized expert. For motor vehicles without type approval, an expert opinion in accordance with § 21 StVZO or § 13 EG-FGV with individual approval from the Marburg-Biedenkopf bundling authority
- For imported vehicles, a purchase contract as proof of authorization to dispose of the vehicle
- License plates (presentation is only required if the vehicle has not been taken out of service)
- Yellow insurance card for export license plates.
- Proof of a valid general inspection (HU), either by submitting the original HU report or by the entry in the registration certificate part I
- The vehicle must be presented before registration or allocation. (In particular to identify the vehicle, but also to carry out a visual inspection of the vehicle's condition)
- SEPA direct debit mandate, or clearance certificate from the customs office regarding the vehicle tax already paid
Possibly a power of attorney (if the applicant lives abroad)
- valid identity card or valid passport with registration certificate (not older than 3 months) or valid replacement ID card
- valid EU identity document with registration certificate (not older than 3 months)
- Passport with electronic residence permit (eAT) for non-EU citizens
Note: Applicants and holders who have an information block entered in the population register are advised to present a registration certificate at the time of their visit. If a certificate of registration is not presented, processing may be delayed or the application may even be rejected, as a manual query must then be made at the Citizens' Office.
For sole proprietorships (natural person), legal entities and freelancers additionally:
- Business registration or extract from the commercial register
- for foreign companies additionally with translation of the company documents (officially recognized interpreter) (not older than 3 years)
- for freelancers (no business registration available): Company letterhead
- if a third party is commissioned: power of attorney from the vehicle owner and identity document of the commissioned party
