It is possible to change your first name and/or surname. The following types of name changes are available:

• Taking your birth name after divorce
• Adopting/revoking a joint married name/double-barreled name
• Name change after naturalization or resettlement
• Name change for a child, name of the other parent
• Name change for a child after the parents/step-parents marry
• Changing the order of first
  names If you have multiple first names, it is possible to rearrange their order. First names with hyphens must remain unchanged.
• Change of name
  under public law A change of name under public law is possible in individual cases. It can only be considered if there is an important reason within the meaning of the Name Change Act.
• From May 1, 2025, the new name law will offer additional options
