Registering a new vehicle

If you want to use a new motor vehicle on public roads for the first time, it must be registered. This also applies to trailers. You or your representative must submit the application for this initial registration to the local vehicle registration authority.

Once registration is complete, you will receive the registration documents, and the registration authority will assign you a license plate.

Registration entitles you to

  • drive the vehicle on public roads and
  • park the vehicle in public areas. 
  •  

During registration, so-called owner information is recorded.

  • For individuals:
  • Last name, maiden name, first names,
    • if applicable, religious or stage name,
    • date and place of birth or, if the place of birth is unknown, country of birth,
    • gender and address
  • For legal entities and government agencies:
    • Name or designation and
    • address
  • For associations:
    • Representative(s) with details of natural or legal persons
    • Name of the association

If you want to use a new motor vehicle on the road for the first time, it must be registered. This also applies to trailers. You or your representative must submit the application for this initial registration to the registration authority responsible for the applicant's main place of residence. If the registration is to be made in the name of a trader, the registration authority in whose district the company's registered office is located has local jurisdiction.

After successful registration, you will receive the registration documents and the registration authority will assign you a license plate number.
