If you want to use a new motor vehicle on the road for the first time, it must be registered. This also applies to trailers. You or your representative must submit the application for this initial registration to the registration authority responsible for the applicant's main place of residence. If the registration is to be made in the name of a trader, the registration authority in whose district the company's registered office is located has local jurisdiction.
After successful registration, you will receive the registration documents and the registration authority will assign you a license plate number.
Registration is only possible if the main place of residence under registration law is in Wiesbaden or, in the case of companies, if the company is based in Wiesbaden.
Documents
Please bring a valid identity card or passport if you also have an electronic residence permit (eAT).
Note: Applicants and holders who have entered an information block in the population register are advised to present a registration certificate promptly at the interview. If a registration certificate is not presented, processing may be delayed or the application may even be rejected, as a manual query must then be made at the Citizens' Office.

Fees
The initial registration costs between EUR 30.20 and EUR 60.00. The exact amount can only be determined on site on the basis of the complete documentation. The basis for the amount of the fee is the scale of fees for road traffic measures (GebOSt).
The applicant must not have any outstanding fees and expenses from previous registration processes. If payment arrears exceed ten euros, the registration authority may not register the vehicle until these have been settled. If the arrears are less than ten euros, the registration authority may decide whether or not to register the vehicle.
The applicant must not have vehicle tax debts of five euros or more. When calculating the amount, late payment penalties, interest and late payment surcharges are also taken into account
For the online application
Once you have been registered, you must download and print out the notification for immediate commissioning within 30 minutes. In order to be able to drive off immediately, please note that you must attach the license plates with the assigned registration number to the vehicle. You will receive the registration certificate Part I or Part II and the stamp stickers by post a few days after registration, until then you may only drive with the printed notification within Germany for a maximum of 10 days.
For the application on site
If the applicant is to be represented when registering their vehicle, a written power of attorney must be issued to the person representing them and a valid identity card or passport must be handed over for presentation. This power of attorney must also contain the applicant's consent that the registration authority may inform the authorized person of any outstanding fees and expenses. The representative must present the power of attorney and provide proof of identity.
The SEPA mandate must contain two signatures in the "Payer" and "Holder" fields. If the payer and holder are identical, the signature in the "Payer" field is sufficient. Please note that a SEPA direct debit mandate with the signature of the holder and payer is required for each individual registration process, which you can fill out directly online here and then print out for signing!
