In order to ensure a smooth process for all parties involved, we ask you to observe the following general conditions for the collection of lost property:

1. lost property that must be handed in

• Items up to a value of EUR 10.00 are not subject to compulsory collection and can be managed or disposed of by yourself.
• Items with a value of 10.00 euros or more must be handed in.

2. recording of lost property

• We ask you to record each lost item on a list with the date it was found.
• It can be helpful to number the individual lost property items and also note this number on the list. One option is to pack each item of lost property in its own bag and label it with a number.

3. retention period and frequency of submission

• For reasons of property preservation, the Wiesbaden Lost Property Office does not accept lost property that has been lost for longer than the statutory retention period of 6 months.
• We recommend that lost property is handed in at least quarterly, as those who have lost it will contact us promptly to enquire about their lost property.
• Delayed submission is problematic both from a legal point of view and in terms of citizen friendliness and service.
• In the case of identity documents in particular, it is annoying for the lost person to receive late notification of the lost item, as new documents have often already been applied for or travel to other countries is made more difficult.

4 Obligations of the finder

Please remember that as a company, public authority or institution you are subject to the finder's duties in accordance with §§ 965-984 BGB in conjunction with § 121 BGB and are obliged to report the find immediately.
