For temporary stays in certain countries outside the EU/EEA, you need an international driving license. The international driving license is only a translation of the national driving license and is therefore only valid in conjunction with it.
Note: An application can also be made at the Citizens' Office, but only with an EU driving license issued in Germany.
You can find out whether an international driving license is required in the respective country on the website of the Foreign Office.
Identity card or passport, with a certificate of residence if applicable
Valid EU driver’s license
A recent biometric-compliant photograph in accordance with the Passport Regulation (PassV) (45 x 35 mm, portrait orientation, full-face view)
The photo must be brought along in printed form.
Driving license (if the applicant is not in possession of an EU driving license, an additional photo is required - it must be exchanged for an EU driving license)
Transcript of the driving license (list of driving license data if it was not issued in Wiesbaden). This file card copy can be obtained from the authority that issued the current driving license. A file card transcript is not necessary if the applicant already holds an EU driving license.
The fee is based on the scale of fees for road traffic measures (fee numbers 207 and 126.2).
Holders of a pink or gray paper driver's license must first exchange it for a card driver's license. Please refer to the page Exchange!
The international driving license can also be applied for by a third party, provided that the third party can present a corresponding power of attorney and an identity card or passport.
In order to use the services of the driving license authority, you must be registered as having your main place of residence in Wiesbaden.
