Application for an Increase in Housing Allowance

If your total income has decreased, or if your rent or the number of household members has increased, you can apply for an increase in your housing allowance.

While you are currently receiving housing assistance, you can submit a new application for a higher housing allowance to help cover your housing costs if

  • your total income has decreased,
  • the number of household members to be considered has increased, or
  • your rent or mortgage payments have increased.

These changes may, but do not necessarily, lead to an increase in your housing allowance.

You must submit the application for an increased housing allowance to your local housing allowance authority. The eligibility requirements for this benefit will be reviewed.

The increase in housing allowance takes effect as of the date the application is submitted. A retroactive increase in housing allowance is generally not possible.

You are welcome to use our online applications.

Under Links and Downloads you will find pdf application forms and information sheets.
