Educational assistance in full-time foster care means that your child lives with and is cared for by another family. Legal guardians are entitled to educational assistance if the child’s well-being cannot be ensured through their current upbringing and if such assistance is appropriate and necessary for the child’s development. Which foster family your child lives with and for how long depends, for example, on the following:

• The child’s age•
Your
child’s stage of development• Your
child’s attachments• Opportunities to improve the child-rearing conditions in your

home The foster parents are selected by the Youth Welfare Office in consultation with you. 
Only suitable individuals can become foster parents and take your child into their home. 
Relatives (e.g., grandparents) can also be foster parents.
Full-time foster care may be temporary or permanent. It is a type of child-rearing assistance. It may also apply to young adults.
