Importance of the skilled trades for the Wiesbaden economy

With annual revenue of approximately 2 billion euros and around 18,500 employees, the skilled trades sector is a vital part of Wiesbaden’s economy. In addition, it offers diverse and varied job opportunities with excellent career and development prospects, generates tax revenue, and boosts overall value creation in the region through economic ties with other businesses.

Framework conditions for a strong skilled crafts sector

Political, economic, and environmental changes also pose major challenges for the skilled trades. At the same time, the sector plays a central role in managing the transformation processes associated with the energy transition and climate protection. To ensure that the skilled trades in Wiesbaden can continue to operate successfully in the future, we need business-friendly conditions and an attractive location policy. The state capital of Wiesbaden has recognized the need for action and, together with the Wiesbaden Chamber of Crafts and the Wiesbaden-Rheingau-Taunus District Craftsmen’s Association, has developed the Wiesbaden 2030 Crafts Agenda, which aims to improve the economic framework conditions and the attractiveness of the location for the skilled trades in Wiesbaden.

Central fields of action and measures

The Crafts Agenda includes measures in the areas of skilled workers and the next generation of professionals, business start-ups, land use and energy, digitalization, transportation, and public procurement, which—depending on their scope—are to be implemented jointly by the city and the crafts sector in the short and medium term or by 2030.
