In Wiesbaden, fiber optic expansion is carried out on a purely commercial basis, i.e., independently by the telecommunications companies. Therefore, expansion decisions are based purely on the economic calculations of the telecommunications companies. No public funds are involved, and the city has no direct decision-making authority over expansion areas, times, or priorities.

The city cannot allocate exclusive areas, so it is possible that several telecommunications companies are operating in parallel in one area and no provider is active in other areas. Due to different area designations and expansions, this may not be apparent from the table below. The Department of Economic Affairs and Employment is in contact with the telecommunications companies and is a member of the Gigabitregion FrankfurtRheinMain, which aims to promote the comprehensive expansion of fiber optics in the region.

The expansion of fiber optics in our urban area is in the interest of the city as a whole. In order for this to be realized, there must be sufficient demand from residents.
