Location portrait
Cosmopolitan and dynamic, traditional and innovative, centrally located and internationally networked. Wiesbaden is beautiful - an attractive place to live and an ideal business location at the same time.
Location
Wiesbaden, the state capital of Hesse, comprises 26 districts, is the second largest city in Hesse with a population of 300,000 and is located on the western edge of the FrankfurtRhineMain metropolitan region.
Its central location in Germany and Europe is one of Wiesbaden's most important locational factors. Frankfurt Rhine-Main International Airport is only 20 minutes away. The connection to the supra-regional transport network favors logistics and business travel.
Hesse's state capital also offers an optimal digital infrastructure, particularly with regard to the excellent broadband availability thanks to fiber optic connections in the business parks.
Solid sector mix
Wiesbaden's economy is characterized by a unique interplay of traditional and dynamic entrepreneurial commitment. In addition to important medium-sized companies such as Mewa, Auktion & Markt, Vitronic, TIM and SVA, global market leaders such as Abbott and AbbVie are also based in Wiesbaden. Added to this are the European and German headquarters of international companies such as Henkell Freixenet, Panasonic and the SGL Group. In addition to companies that target end customers with their products, there is also a wide range of B2B services.
Around 85 percent of the more than 149,000 employees in the city work in service companies - including R+V Versicherung, which has had its headquarters in Wiesbaden since 1948. In addition, there are service providers from the IT sector such as AOE, Seibert and Sophos Germany as well as numerous consulting firms and creative agencies. In addition, the local business parks and the Kalle-Albert industrial park of InfraServ Wiesbaden offer space for future-oriented production and development.
In addition to the state government of Hesse, two important federal authorities, the Federal Criminal Police Office and the Federal Statistical Office, are located in Wiesbaden. Numerous clubs and associations have their headquarters here, such as the HessenChemie employers' association, the Hessen state association of the motor vehicle trade, the German Society for Internal Medicine, the German Golf Association (DGV), the German Shooting Association and the umbrella organization of the film industry (SPIO). Wiesbaden is also home to the European headquarters of the US Army.
Congress and trade fair location
The world meets in Wiesbaden. Whereas in the past it was mainly bathers and spa guests who enjoyed the soothing waters of the 26 hot springs, today it is mainly congress and trade fair visitors who come here alongside tourists. With its central location, Wiesbaden is the ideal venue for international trade fairs and congresses. The RheinMain CongressCenter Wiesbaden (RMCC) is one of the most modern and innovative congress and event venues in Europe.
Attractive shopping city
Wiesbaden is the city of short distances. The juxtaposition of individual retailers and prestigious retail spaces of well-known chain stores and designers ensures a diverse and sophisticated shopping offer. The purchasing power of Wiesbaden residents is significantly higher than the national average, making Wiesbaden an ideal location for retailers with its pedestrian zone.
High quality of life
Wiesbaden is located where others go on vacation - at the foot of the Taunus mountains, just a stone's throw away from the Rheingau and the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. The cityscape is characterized by many parks and green spaces, and the location on the Rhine and Main rivers provides quiet recreational areas.
The city's high quality of life makes it easier for companies to attract employees to their location. Historic buildings and cultural offerings in the city center on the one hand, and the quiet ambience in the suburbs with their proximity to nature on the other, offer an ideal mix.
Culture and sport
Festivals such as the Rheingau Wine Week or the Sternschnuppenmarkt in the run-up to Christmas are highlights in the calendar of events in the Hessian state capital.
International singers and bands are celebrated at open-air performances in front of the Kurhaus or in the Schlachthof cultural center. The "exground filmfest" and "goEast - Festival of Central and Eastern European Film" bring international filmmaking to the Hessian state capital. Every year, renowned ensembles from all over the world provide high-quality theater art in an impressive setting at the International May Festival of the Hessian State Theater Wiesbaden. World-renowned artists give concerts in Wiesbaden at the summer Rheingau Music Festival.
Sports enthusiasts also get their money's worth in Wiesbaden: the ladies of the 1st Volleyball-Club Wiesbaden e.V. and the Rhine River Rhinos wheelchair basketball team both play in the 1st Bundesliga and provide exciting entertainment at their home games. The SV Wehen Wiesbaden soccer club plays in the 3rd soccer league. The judo fighters and the Phantoms Wiesbaden football team are also successful. The Whitsun tournament is a popular competition for many internationally successful riders.
University location
With more than 13,000 students at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences and at the design, business, media and psychology departments of Fresenius University of Applied Sciences, Wiesbaden is developing an increasingly attractive profile as a university location. One of the key reasons for this is that the economic and creative study focuses at the universities are very well suited to the corporate landscape of the Hessian state capital. Wiesbaden's creative industry, for example, is characterized by agencies that were founded by graduates of RheinMain University of Applied Sciences and are now benefiting from this development.
