Bachfest Wiesbaden - 50 years of the Wiesbaden Bach Festival from November 2 to January 18.

For 50 years, the "J. S. Bach-Gesellschaft Wiesbaden" has passionately dedicated itself to the work of the great Baroque composer by organizing the Wiesbaden Bach Festival every second year since 1975. To mark its 50th anniversary in 2025, it will be celebrated as a major Bach festival with 19 concerts. The artistic management team consisting of Professor Eva Maria Pollerus and Professor Martin Lutz has put together a series of 19 concerts on the theme of "Bach and Dresden" with the most magnificent music by the great baroque composer and his fellow musicians at the Dresden court. The prevented duel: Johann Sebastian Bach vs. Louis Marchand - Eva Maria Pollerus and Alexander von Heißen, harpsichord

When Louis Marchand, organist at the Royal Chapel in Versailles and famous traveling virtuoso, was in Dresden in 1717, news spread like wildfire: Johann Sebastian Bach had sent him an official letter inviting him to take part in a competition. Bach wanted to consolidate his reputation as the best organ player in Germany. But Marchand had heard Bach playing in secret and took flight. And the duel "Marchand vs. Bach" does not take place.

After a good 300 years, two keyboard virtuosos now meet and slip into the roles of their rivals: Alexander von Heißen as Marchand versus Eva Maria Pollerus as Bach. But no one takes flight here. Quite the opposite! The two fighting cocks will eventually find a common harmony on the harpsichord. An exciting story and wonderful music!

Sunday, November 9, 5 p.m. Lutherkirche

Royal Requiems - Johann Sebastian Bach: Funeral music for the wife of King Augustus the Strong
Jan Dismas Zelenka: Requiem for Emperor Joseph I
Vocal ensemble "Cantori del Venosa", baroque orchestra "Cappella degli amici" under the direction of Martin Lutz

The incredibly colorful and harmonically exciting style of Jan Dismas Zelenka (1679 to 1745) has long fascinated connoisseurs and lovers of Baroque music. In 1736, together with his friend J. S. Bach, he was awarded the honorary title of "Compositeur bey der Königlichen Hofcapelle" in Dresden - Zelenka for the Catholic, Bach for the Protestant court church music. It therefore seems particularly appealing to present two large-scale funeral works by the two masters together: Bach's grandiose funeral ode for Queen Christiane Eberhardine, the wife of Augustus the Strong, and Zelenka's Requiem for Emperor Joseph I, the father-in-law of the heir to the throne. This concert brings together an excellent vocal ensemble and outstanding instrumentalists from all over Europe: an "All Stars" ensemble!
