Tarbut - Guided tour of the "Schöne Aussicht" cemetery

On Sunday, October 12, a one-hour guided tour of the "Schöne Aussicht" cemetery will be offered at 11 a.m. as part of the "Tarbut" cultural series.

View of gravestones

A Jewish cemetery existed in Taunusstein-Wehen as early as the 14th century. It also served as a burial place for the few Jewish families in Wiesbaden. This remained the only cemetery for Wiesbaden's Jews until the 18th century. Then, however, as their numbers grew, the desire for a
desire for their own cemetery grew. In 1750, this wish was fulfilled, largely thanks to the long-standing community leader Eli Jizchak ha Levi. His grave is also the first in the cemetery "Auf dem Kuhberg" (later "Schöne Aussicht").

The younger part of the cemetery dates back to 1851. Despite its age, the entire ensemble of the cemetery is still a gem and cultural monument of the town. Extensive renovations have been taking place for several years with funding from the Darmstadt Regional Council.

Speakers: Dr. Katherine Lukat, Wiesbaden City Archive, and Steve Landau, Director of the Jewish Teaching House, have created the online exhibition on the "Beautiful View", which can be found via the link below.
