City council meeting

On July 7, 1989, the city council signed the Golden Book of the City of Wiesbaden.

Wiesbaden's New Town Hall was built between 1883 and 1887 by Georg von Hauberrisser in the Neo-Renaissance style on the Schlossplatz between the Old Town Hall, the City Palace and the Marktkirche.

After the bombing of Wiesbaden in the Second World War and the partial destruction of the building, the façade of the town hall was rebuilt in a simplified form and without the dominant main gable.

In addition to its function as an official building, the New Town Hall has public exhibition rooms and a Ratskeller, which has been used as a popular gastronomic establishment since it was built.

In the mid-1980s, the building and its rooms were in urgent need of renovation. After this work was completed, the reopening was celebrated on July 7, 1989 with a festive meeting of the city council.

On this occasion, the Golden Book was laid out, in which all of Wiesbaden's civic representatives as well as prominent guests such as the mayor of the oldest twin city, Klagenfurt, Leopold Guggenberg, signed the book.
