A brief history of the Wiesbaden city forest
Today, the forest around Wiesbaden offers numerous opportunities for leisure activities. Exercise trails, hiking trails and shelters invite you to spend time here. All of these facilities were created in this or a similar form as early as the mid-19th century, in particular to attract spa guests to the forests surrounding the city. The Wiesbaden Beautification Association in particular was dedicated to excursion destinations in the countryside. Over a hundred years later, in the 1980s, forest bathing came into fashion. Wiesbaden set up quiet zones in the forest and pursued ecological programs against the backdrop of increasing environmental awareness.
The forest has changed several times over the past 200 years, depending on the demands placed on it. The lecture sheds light on the epochs that particularly shaped the appearance of the urban forest today. However, it also takes a look at which requirements have not been met over the past decades.
