Protest day for the equality of people with disabilities
On Tuesday, May 5, people with and without disabilities set a visible sign for more participation, self-determination and accessibility at the town hall on Schlossplatz.
On Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the state capital will participate for the second time in the nationwide day of protest for the equality of people with disabilities. From 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., the state capital of Wiesbaden, in cooperation with advocacy groups for people with disabilities, invites the public to City Hall.
The day of protest draws attention to existing barriers—this year’s focus is “Getting Around—on public transit, streets, and sidewalks.” At City Hall on Schlossplatz, visitors can expect an open exchange with initiatives, affected individuals, and stakeholders from politics and society.
Planned are
- Flash mob in front of City Hall
- Speeches
- Panel discussions with experts on the topic of mobility
- Information booths on inclusive services and projects
- Hands-on activities for children, teens, and adults
- Inclusive art exhibition / Information on the Touched by Art project
We are pleased to welcome Andreas Winkel, the Hessian State Government’s Commissioner for People with Disabilities, and City Councilor Dr. Patricia Becher on this day. All interested parties are cordially invited to learn more, advocate for equal participation, and strengthen inclusion as a shared responsibility.
The event will be accompanied by sign language interpreters.
Background
On May 5, events will be held across the country to mark the European Day of Action for the Equality of People with Disabilities. Inclusion is a human right, as enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) more than 15 years ago. In Wiesbaden, the Day of Protest is being organized jointly by the Working Group on Inclusion and Accessibility, the Expert Council, and the municipal inclusion officer.
