Work equipment
The tools are a helpful support for the networks. For example, the sheets provide information about the individual child so that they can be well received at school.
As daycare centers often hand over children to a large number of elementary school and elementary school also take in children from many daycare centers, a personal exchange is not always possible. Nevertheless, the elementary school learns something about each individual child through the questionnaires and can initiate important steps towards the best possible support even before the child starts school. The aim is to ensure that every child arrives well at school.
Theshort information sheet and handover sheet must be completed by the daycare center (please make sure to use the current sheets - see below). They serve as a basis for discussions with parents and sensitize them to the upcoming transition to school.
The aim is to convey a meaningful and realistic picture of the child. If the parents' assessment differs from the daycare center's view, the parents have the opportunity to note this on the sheets.
Parents must be informed by the daycare center that the forms do not constitute registration for afternoon care and that parents must register their children with the respective provider of afternoon care.
The short information sheet must be sent to the school in duplicate no later than one week before school enrollment (April), i.e. one and a half years before the child starts school. It serves the school to compare the daycare center's assessment with its own picture of the child during school registration and, if necessary, to initiate steps for the best possible support even before school enrollment (for example, participation in the preparatory course, involvement of the counseling and support center (BFZ).
The school forwards the short information sheets to the health department with the parents' consent. For them, the form is an important tool for inviting the children to the school entrance examination at an early stage if necessary.
The public health department asks the daycare centers to also forward the short information sheet to the child and youth medical service if they recommend an early or early school entry examination for these children, so that the early school entry examination can be ensured.

The handover form serves to ensure that the children arrive at school and after-school care safely and should be submitted to the school in a single copy by March 30 at the latest - six months before school enrolment. With this information, the school and after-school care can prepare for the children and make any necessary preparations.
The school forwards the short information sheet and handover form to the afternoon care center from which the child has received a place confirmation. If there are not enough places for everyone, it is necessary for the school and afternoon care center to agree on which children should be admitted to afternoon care (if necessary, with the involvement of the daycare center).
The feedback form must be completed by the school and sent to the relevant daycare center no later than February 15, six months after enrollment. It serves as feedback to the daycare centers on how the individual child has arrived at school. The information can also be used to reflect on the "pre-school work".
Everyone is obliged to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation . If it makes sense to talk about individual children, everyone makes sure that the exchange about the children between the daycare center, elementary school and afternoon care is conducted in an appreciative and strength-oriented manner - always with the aim of providing the best possible support for the child. In this confidential setting, care is taken to ensure that only those people who are necessary are present.
Which school is the "responsible school"?
To differentiate: According to the "Wiesbaden Agreement" on the transition from daycare to elementary school, the"reference elementary school" is the school to which the majority of pre-school children in a daycare center transfer. This can be up to three schools. This involves cooperation between the daycare center and the elementary school.
The"responsible elementary school", on the other hand, depends on the child's place of residence. In other words, the school that invites children to register for school. Requests for permission do not play a role here.
The "responsible elementary school" can be determined via the school district search linked below.
Please note: Please note that all forms will be updated in fall 2025.
What do Kann-Kind, Vorklasse and Vorlaufkurs mean?
Younger children, so-called "optional children", can be enrolled early at the request of their parents. The decision on admission is made by the head teacher, taking into account a medical report from the school doctor.
Children of compulsory school age who do not yet have the necessary physical, mental and emotional development to attend school can, with their parents' consent, attend a pre-school class for one year without this being counted towards their compulsory school attendance. Schools and daycare centers offer this. Elementary school also offer preparatory courses in the year before school enrolment. These are aimed at all children who do not have sufficient knowledge of German when they register for school. Elementary school and daycare centers work closely together. Since the 2021/2022 school year, pre-school courses have been compulsory for children of pre-school age without sufficient language skills.
