E-scooters may be used on the following traffic areas:

• cycle paths and cycle lanes
• shared or separated footpaths and cycle paths
• bicycle lanes
• environmental lanes in Wiesbaden

If this infrastructure is not available, riding on the roadway is permitted.

Important: Sidewalks, pedestrian zones, bus lanes and one-way streets in the opposite direction of travel may only be used if they are marked with the additional sign "Small electric vehicles free".

The return of the e-scooters is divided into two zones depending on the respective city area:

1. station-based areas

In certain zones, such as the main train station and the historic pentagon (city center), e-scooters may only be returned to color-coded parking areas set up by the city. In these areas, the rental process must be completed in a marked parking area - return outside of these stations is not possible.

2. free-floating areas

In all other areas of the city, it is possible to return scooters using the free-floating system. This means that e-scooters may be parked in public spaces, usually on the sidewalk, as long as the following rules are observed:

If possible, the scooter should be parked parallel to the sidewalk at the edge to leave enough space for pedestrians.

Parking is not permitted

• on cycle paths
• on escape routes or fire lanes
• in entrances and exits
• at intersections
• directly at bus stops
• at construction sites
• on guidance systems for the blind
• in parking and green areas

All e-scooters used on public roads must comply with the requirements of the eKFV. These include

• Two independent brakes
• Functioning light and sound systems

When purchasing a private model, it is also important to ensure that it has a valid operating license. Motor vehicle liability insurance is mandatory - the corresponding sticker on the vehicle indicates this. Without this, you risk a fine.

• From the age of 14: In principle, e-scooters may be used from the age of 14.
• Rental offer: However, most rental companies require you to be of legal age.
• Driving license: No driving license is required to ride.

• Alcohol: The blood alcohol limits correspond to those for driving a car. As little as 0.5 to 1.09 per mille can constitute an administrative offense (with a fine and driving ban) - 1.1 per mille or more is a criminal offense. For novice drivers and persons in the probationary period, 0.0 per mille applies.
• Passengers: It is not permitted to carry more than one person at a time.
