Climate protection and climate adaptation

Climate adaptation concept

The consequences of climate change are being felt more and more clearly. Droughts, hot summers and heavy rainfall are on the increase. Climate change has also arrived in Wiesbaden. The city is one of the driest and warmest regions in Germany. Summers are characterized by long, dry heat waves.

Climate change adaptation concept: Invitation to the second information event

People talking to each other in small groups

Climate change poses major challenges for cities and municipalities due to heatwaves, heavy rainfall and dry spells. How can the consequences of climate change be mitigated? And how can resilience to its effects be strengthened? The integrated climate adaptation concept, which is currently being developed by the Environment Agency in a broad process, provides answers to these questions and shows possible adaptation measures for the state capital.

In order to give citizens an insight into the work on the climate adaptation concept, which is now well advanced, the Environment Agency is inviting them to an information event on Thursday, December 4, from 6 to 8.30 pm at the Kulturforum Wiesbaden, Schillerplatz 1-2, 65185 Wiesbaden (Friedrichstraße entrance).

After a welcome and introduction by Mayor Christiane Hinninger, representatives of the Environmental Agency and the commissioned planning office will present the current status of the concept for the city of Wiesbaden and the planned further process. There will be an opportunity to ask questions in the plenary session. After the presentations, visitors will also be able to find out more about the climate adaptation concept and talk directly to the experts.

The climate adaptation concept is being developed under the leadership of the Environment Agency and in collaboration with municipal departments and other experts. It defines goals and fields of action and develops suitable measures for adapting to climate change. The aim is to make Wiesbaden more resilient to its effects in the future and to use as many synergies as possible for planning and implementation. In October 2024, the first public information event was held to kick off the development process.

The information evening and the creation of the climate adaptation concept for the state capital of Wiesbaden are funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN).
