Climate protection and climate adaptation

Climate adaptation concept

The consequences of climate change are being felt more and more clearly. Droughts, hot summers and heavy rainfall are on the increase. Climate change has also arrived in Wiesbaden. The city is one of the driest and warmest regions in Germany. Summers are characterized by long heat waves.

Climate change therefore poses major challenges for cities and municipalities. How can the consequences of climate change be mitigated? And how can resilience to its impacts be strengthened? The integrated climate adaptation strategy, which is currently being developed under the leadership of the Environmental Agency in collaboration with city departments and other experts, provides answers and outlines potential adaptation measures for the state capital.

In the process, goals and areas of action are defined, and appropriate measures for adapting to climate change are developed.

As part of a participatory process for the climate adaptation concept, the first public information event took place in October 2024. On December 4, 2025, the Environmental Agency then invited all interested citizens to the second information event at the Kulturforum.

Representatives from the Environmental Office and the contracted planning firm provided an overview of the current status of the climate adaptation concept and the next steps. Following this, questions could be asked during the plenary session. In addition, participants had the opportunity to learn more through an exhibition and engage directly with the experts.

The information evening and the development of the climate adaptation concept for the state capital of Wiesbaden are funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN).
