Mist systems on the Dern site and at Kochbrunnenplatz
This year, for the first time, two mobile misting systems will be added to the water features in downtown Wiesbaden. They are part of a pilot project under the Heat Action Plan and are managed by the Environmental Agency.
Mobile misting systems are providing relief from the heat on the Dern’schen Gelände and at Kochbrunnenplatz as part of a pilot project under the downtown heat action plan. The two systems have been rented for ten weeks and—as decided by the City Council—will provide relief until early September. Once the pilot project is complete, the results of the misting systems in downtown Wiesbaden will be evaluated.
Important Information on Function and Hygiene
| Operation | The spray mist is activated by a touch sensor and starts after about ten seconds. The runtime is three minutes. |
|---|---|
| Effect | The fine mist evaporates in the air, draws heat from the surroundings, and noticeably cools the air by up to 12 degrees Celsius. You won’t get wet when standing under the mist shower. |
| Water and Electricity Consumption | The actual daily consumption, including hygiene flushes, is approximately 100 liters of water and 0.6 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per unit. Both figures are less than the average daily consumption per person in Wiesbaden. |
Water Hygiene Measures
The misting systems are designed for use in public spaces. However, they are not playground equipment and therefore do not comply with the DIN standard for playground equipment. Climbing on them is prohibited.
Damage can be reported at hitzeaktionsplanwiesbadende, at the Umweltladen, Luisenstraße 19, or by phone at 0611 313600 (opens in a new tab) (Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Wednesday, Thursday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.) .
Mist System Damaged at the Dern Site
One of the two misting systems set up in the city center to provide relief on hot days was severely damaged on Friday morning, June 26.
On the Dern’schen Gelände, a truck backed into the system, causing damage that makes it inoperable for the time being. The system was dismantled on Friday and will be sent for repairs as soon as possible. It is currently unclear whether and when it will be able to resume operation.
The misting system that went into operation on Thursday, June 25, at Kochbrunnenplatz is functioning as planned and providing relief on hot days.
