Noise is one of the environmental issues that is the subject of intense public debate. In the "Life in Wiesbaden" survey conducted by the Office for Statistics and Urban Research in 2022, 24 percent of respondents said they were dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with the noise level.

However, the effect of noise does not depend solely on its physical properties. Noise is perceived very differently by different individuals. Noise that we cause ourselves, such as from our own lawnmower or stereo system, is more likely to be accepted or even desired.

The individual nuisance threshold therefore varies considerably. Especially at night, when everything is quiet, noises that are not perceived during the day can be disturbing.

The Federal Immission Control Act requires the creation of a noise action plan for Wiesbaden. The state capital of Wiesbaden's goals for immission control are:

  • to reduce or eliminate harmful environmental impacts caused by noise
  • take precautionary measures to prevent new noise pollution.

Noise abatement measures primarily cover:

  • Residential, sports, and leisure noise
  • Construction noise
  • Restaurant noise
  • Road traffic noise.

The city provides information on general noise issues as well as noise from air traffic, rail traffic, industry, and commerce.
