Upcycling day: repairing and printing clothes in the environmental store

On Saturday, September 20, from 12 noon to 3 p.m., the environmental advice center invites you to an upcycling day at the Umweltladen. Under the motto "Redesigning old clothes", visitors will learn how to breathe new life into items of clothing they have brought with them using creative repair techniques and fabric printing.

Visible Mending & Screen Printing

Screen printing

Whether it's your favorite shirt with a stubborn stain or jeans with a hole - instead of throwing them away, such items can be transformed into truly unique pieces with a little skill. With visible mending, holes or tears are deliberately made visible and artfully repaired. With screen printing, prepared motifs - from dinosaurs to bicycles - can be printed onto textiles brought along. New designs are created or stains disappear stylishly under creative patterns.

With this hands-on campaign, the environmental consultancy aims to show how clothing can be used and appreciated for longer. Never before has a generation owned so many items of clothing - and yet every fifth item remains unworn. The so-called fast fashion industry encourages a throwaway mentality through low prices, with serious consequences: full containers of old clothes, high consumption of resources, environmental pollution and poor working conditions. Anyone who buys less new and instead uses second-hand and repairs or upcycles is actively helping to protect the environment.

Participants are asked to bring their own items of clothing to be printed or repaired. The event is free of charge and no registration is required.

The upcycling day takes place as an accompanying program to the exhibition "Stoff zum Nachdenken. More sustainability in the closet", which can be visited at the Umweltladen until October 31.
